Short lifecourse for Patrick Furrer

Dr Patrick Furrer is the Swiss National Contact Point for Information and Communication Technologies at Euresearch. He has got a masters degree in high-energy particle physics at CERN in 1990, followed by a 10 years academic career with a PhD (1996) in biophysics and scientific computing with about 30 publications. He’s been serving as NCP for the ICT priority of the European R&D framework programmes since 2001 and as National Expert to the European ICT Committee since 2004. He is active as ICT expert in the SATW (Swiss Academy for Engineering Sciences) platform e-Switzerland. He got a MBA in 2005 and functions as vice-director of the Euresearch Information Network www.euresearch.ch. He was also nominated as SIRA (Swiss Informatics Research Association) delegate in the ERCIM (European Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics), where he was elected as board member in 2011. In May 2012, Patrick joined the board of the Swiss Informatics Society (www.s-i.ch) where he’s in charge of international collaborations, as well the board of the IDIAP Research Institute in Martigny (www.idiap.ch). He’s also member of the board of the Ideal-IST network (www.ideal-ist.eu), supporting the international cooperation of ICT NCPs in more than 80 countries, where he’s in charge of external relations with other networks and initiatives.
